Job Description
Kapcharge is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Underwriter to support merchant onboarding and risk assessment. This role offers direct ownership of underwriting decisions and the opportunity to strengthen risk frameworks as the organization scales, working closely with cross-functional teams and leadership.

Responsibilities
- Review and assess merchant applications, including business models, financials, and supporting documentation
- Conduct KYC/KYB and validate ownership, identity, and banking information using accepted verification methods
- Make underwriting decisions (approve, decline, or condition) aligned with internal risk appetite
- Identify red flags, fraud indicators, and potential compliance concerns, escalating when needed
- Document decisions clearly to ensure audit readiness and regulatory compliance, including FINTRAC obligations
- Assess merchant risk exposure and recommend controls (reserves, limits, etc.)
- Work closely with Compliance, Operations, and Sales to move files efficiently and accurately
- Contribute to improving underwriting processes, controls, and consistency as the company grows
We are excited about you if you have
- 3-5+ years of experience in underwriting, risk, fraud, compliance, or a related function
- Experience with KYC/KYB, AML, or financial risk assessment
- Strong analytical judgment and ability to make defensible decisions
- Experience reviewing financial documents (bank statements, ownership structures, etc.)
- Exposure to payments, fintech, banking, or merchant services is a strong asset
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a high volume of files
